‘In ten sessions you’ll feel the difference, in twenty you’ll see the difference, and in thirty you’ll have a new body’. Joseph H. Pilates (1880 – 1967)
Designed for a variety of levels, the group mat pilates classes combine flow and precision with the most fundamental of Pilates’ work – the floor exercises.
Classes may involve use of equipment such as exercise bands, pilates balls, toning ‘magic’ circles, foam rollers and wobble boards – all equipment required in class is provided except for stability balls. Mats and head cushions are also provided to ensure you are comfortable!
Pilates classes should be run as small groups, limited to a maximum of 12 people to ensure you all receive adequate attention. It is important that you are treated as an individual within a class, not just given a generic programme.
Classes are progressive so it is important that the class is able to continue to move on organically, at its natural pace. Once a new class has started, if a new beginner wishes to join a class and it is still at an appropriate level, it may be necessary for the new joiner to have a few individual sessions.
In the summer months with children off school it can be hard to continue to find time for yourself. Some classes may therefore change in style slightly over the summer to allow some children to come along with their mum.
They love playing on all of the pilates kit, in fact I’m not sure who enjoyed the classes more this summer – the kids or the older population in class!
Alternatively, you may prefer a private pilates class to target your own specific requirements. These are especially recommended if you have an injury that requires specific exercises to assist rehabilitation. Start with an intensive evaluation and continue toward a customized Pilates practice keeping your fitness goals in focus. Private sessions last 1 hour and can take place within your home. Alternatively they can take place in one of the halls used for group classes, or at Keynsham + Saltford Physiotherapy Clinic in Keynsham.
